another typical wednesday night, driving home from a movie with kiersten, taco bell in hand, staying up much later than i should considering i have to be at work in a few hours. we're almost home, one more turn....look up to see a black car coming fast, really fast.... and all i can say is "kiersten" before we're spinnning in dark silence.
"am I bleeding?"
"let me look no"
"are you ok"
"yes are you"
"oh God"
"oh God"
it was our first time in a situation like this. a situation that most people don't walk away from. the man who hits us stands in the midst of the flashing lights and red flares as he lights up a cigarette. i have pintos and cheese all over my jeans and a little on my forehead. and all either of us feel is gratefulness. all we can say is thank You. the cop says "Thank God you were driving a Volvo", yes God, thank you for Volvos. thank you thank you thank you. at home with a humble heart, a different perspective, a tight chest, we pray and say Thank you over and over and over again. I wake up today and say thank you. I get a message that my little sister left me last night to tell me she loved me and I say thank you. Thank you.
