Lake City Parade

Growing up, the Lake City Parade was the highlight of my year (after Christmas, of course).

Cousins, Aunts and Uncles, Nana, and new people every year. Myself, hiding behind the adults as the pirates scraped their swords along the sidewalk. We'd take up the same spot on Lake City Way each year, in front of Value Village, a little north of Baker's restaurant, where I would get my fill of potato skins, blue-bubble gum ice cream, and rootbeer with gummy bears.

I haven't been in so long, but this year I went with our cousins and the next generation of our family. It took me back, sitting there on that same sidewalk in front of the same value village, eating cotton candy, and wishing I were on a drill team (or at least owned a whistle).
