Hello From the Past

Kiro's neighborhood blog had a bit over the weekend about a note that was found during a remodel of a Queen Anne house. The author happened to be my Great Uncle Jack. While I didn't know him well, i've been told time and again he was a character, but who in my family isn't?

What I love about this note is it's reflection of the Barbour attitude. I am always most content when I see myself following the example set by my Dad, Nana, and the rest of the clan.

The note sums it up well: Don't work too hard, have hope, and be a good person.

Such a great reminder to me as I am now fully submerged in the world of corporate finance, where many are aiming for success, wealth, and praise. It's hard to not be swept away by at all, set aside smiles to be taken more seriously, or work long hours to stand out.

As the pressure to put on the professional facade increases, I will remember this note. Or I will think of our Dad's famous line: "Are you happy?.....Well tell your face", either way i'll be certain to lighten up.
