I've recently realized that many of the things I adore are associated with or have roots in Cuba:
Ernest Hemingway: lived in Cuba over half his life.
Gabriel Garcia Marquez: Political Ties and friendship with Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas (Before Night Falls). Even though he is a Nobel Prize winner, his relations were cause for a Travel Ban, that wasn't lifted until President Clinton was elected and announced that "One Hundred Years of Solitude" was his favorite book (i'm sure there was more to it than that being his favorite book, but it's still interesting).
Mojitos: By far my favorite adult beverage: bruised mint, lime juice, sparkling water and rum. I've had ones with Lavendar and one with blueberry. And apparently Jay, Janna's object of affection, makes a really good Blackberry Mojito. Sean, Leah and I tried a good mix the other night from Central Market that's all natural and i'm going to bring it to work, so Janna can try using it in her Jasmine White Tea Lime Cooler (non-alcoholic), can't wait to try it!
Pablo Neruda: "Naked, you are blue as a night in Cuba."
Havanese Dogs: We had the pleasure of dogsitting 2 of these cuties over the summer: Dooey and Lucy. I can't wait for the day to call one my own.
